Das Reversal-Shift-Paradigma bei geistigbehinderten Kindern

The reversal-shift-paradigm in mentally handicapped children

  • In the first chapter an attempt is made to systematize the experimental works on the psychology of the mentally handicapped, the method of which is of a cognitive nature, in four main directions. The author feels obliged to adopt a "defect position". In the analysis to hand he goes back to the reversal shift paradigm by Kendler and associates, because he presumes that the production deficit of the mentally handicapped which is mentioned by various authors is, to a considerable degree, a result of the complexity of the stimulus material. This paradigm requires only two dimensional stimulus material and is also practicable in the case of low instruction comprehension. Thirty mentally handicapped test persons were treated with a reversal shift (relearning in the same dimension) and also with a non-reversal shift (relearning in another dimension). The reversal shift showed better achievement results. The results are discussed in a three phase model.
