• Die Forschung basiert auf einer qualitativen Untersuchung. Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung steht die Frage, welche Kommunikationsprobleme und Verstehensprobleme in deutsch- thailändischen Kontaktsituationen und im Fremdsprachenunterricht auftreten können und wie die interkulturelle Kompetenz des Fremdsprachenunterrichts und Kommunikationskompetenz erweitert werden können. Die Methoden der Untersuchung sind problemzentrierte Interviews mit 22 thailändischen Lernenden und deutschen Lehrenden sowohl in Deutschland als auch in Thailand (Kurzfragebögen, Interview- Leitfaden, Gruppendiskussionen sind ergänzende Elemente) und die Anwendung des ethnopsycholinguistischen Lakunen-Modells auf die Analyse der Kommunikationsprobleme zwischen Deutschen und Thailändern. Mögliche Ursachenfelder für Kommunikationsprobleme und Verstehenslücken zwischen Deutschen und Thailändern sind: Sprache, Unterschiedliche Hierarchieorientierung, Unterschiedliche Wertorientierung/ Erwartungen, Unterschiedliches Rollenverständnis,Die Forschung basiert auf einer qualitativen Untersuchung. Mögliche Ursachenfelder für Kommunikationsprobleme und Verstehenslücken zwischen Deutschen und Thailändern sind: Sprache, Unterschiedliche Hierarchieorientierung, Unterschiedliche Wertorientierung/ Erwartungen, Unterschiedliches Rollenverständnis, Unterschiedliche Moralvorstellungen, Tabubrechung, Unterschiedliche Lehr- und Lernstile und unterschiedliche Bildungssysteme, Unterschiedliche Diskussionsstile und gegenteilige Argumente. Lakune Modell effektiv hilft bei der Analyse der verborgenen Probleme der Kommunikation und der kulturellen Unterschiede zwischen Deutschen und Thailändern und aus den Erkenntnissen der Untersuchung ergeben sich folgende Thesen bzw. Forderungen an den Fremdsprachenunterricht:1)Nicht nur verbale Kompetenz, sondern auch nonverbale Kompetenz und soziokulturelle Kompetenz sollten als anerkannter Bestandteil kommunikativer Kompetenz berücksichtigt werden.. 2)Sowohl der Fremdsprachenlehrer als auch der Fremdsprachenlerner sollten zur diffirenzierten Wahrnehmung und Interpretation von Zeichensystem bzw. Code (Sprache, Körpersprache, Verkehrzeichen, Kleidung usw.) sensibilisiert werden. 3)Die Voraussetzungen des Lernens (Lehr- und Lernsstile, Lehr- und Lerngewohnheiten, Merkmale der Gegenstände, Farbe usw.) sollten im Unterricht berücksichtigt werden. 4) Kulturspezifische Verhaltensweisen müssen Lehrern und Lernern bewusst gemacht werden und es gilt herauszufinden, welche kulturell bedingten Verhaltensweisen zu problematischen Situationen führen können. 5)Unterschiedliche Mentalität/ Werte/ Normen sollten bewusst gemacht werden. 6)Jeder Lehrer und Lerner sollte sich seiner eigenen Kompetenzen auf rezeptiver und produktiver Ebene bewusst werden.7)Der Lehrer sollte sich mit den Verhaltensweisen, Kodierungs- und Dekodierungsregeln der Kulturen seiner Lernergruppe auseinandersetzen und sein eigenes Verhalten daraufhin anpassen, um Missverständnisse zu vermeiden. 8)Körpersprache sollte in verschiedenen Bereichen des Fremdsprachenunterrichts und in Übungs- und Arbeitsformen einbezogen und explizit trainiert werden. 9)Unterrrichtmaterial zum Erwerb interkultureller Kompetenz im Fremsprachenunterricht (Deutschunterricht) muss weiterentwickelt und auf eine effektive Übertragbarkeit in den Unterricht hin analysiert werden.…
• This qualitative research aims to study and analyze problems of communication between Germans and Thais including potentials for the development of intercultural competence in German language learning and teaching that based on the analysis of intercultural gaps or gaps of understanding (Lakunen) in terms of language and culture. In this study, the ethnopsycholinguistic theory called the Gaps of Understanding Model (Lakunen Modell) was applied along with interviews of subjects: 22 Thai students learning German and German teachers teaching German in Thailand and Germany. The Gaps of Understanding Model effectively helps in analyzing the hidden problems of communication and the cultural gaps between Germans and Thais and reflecting the potentials for the development of the communication competence and foreign language teaching (German) as follows: 1) The development of verbal language capability is not enough to enhance the potential of intercultural communication; therefore, nonverbal language and other socio-cultural capabilities should also be improved. 2) Not only the students but also the teachers should realize the difference in terms of mentality, verbal language, nonverbal language, behavior, and various definitions of objects and features. 3) In foreign language class (German), the students should be taught to consider and realize the difference of learning strategies and teaching methods of Thai and German societies. In addition, they should be accustom to the different teaching methods and understand the difference of giving importance and definition of objects. 4) The behaviors influenced by the different cultures must be specified in order to make students and teachers realize which behavior is the result of cultural difference of Thai and German people which might lead to problematic situations and/or intercultural communication breakdown. 5) The difference in terms of feeling, valuating, thinking and morality are essential to be indicated. 6) Both teachers and students should realize their capability as linguistically and culturally symbolic system senders and receivers. 7) The teachers should also realize thinking, behaviors, specifications of symbolic system in terms of language and culture as well as principles of the learners’ society in order to understand and avoid problematic situations and misunderstanding. 8) Nonverbal language should be presented and explicitly trained in language learning and other exercises. 9) The finding from this research might lead to the development of German textbook and teaching document in order to enhance the efficiency of intercultural competence.…
